Boris Johnson's fiancée - who has 12-month-old son Wilf with the Prime Minister - is said to have been one of the first names on the BBC Latin and ballroom show's shortlist for this year's series, and an offer to take part is "there if she wants to take it".

A source told The Sun newspaper: "BBC bosses plan their line-up from the start of the year and Carrie was one of the earliest names on their list.

"'Strictly' has become the No1 show for so many political figures and Carrie is one of the biggest names - not only as Boris’s better half but as a campaigner and activist in her own right.

"The offer to take part in the next series is there if she wants to take it.

"Her name has been in the mix for a while and she’d be a brilliant contestant if she chose to take part."

It comes as Boris and the 33-year-old political activist - who started dating in 2019 - have come under fire lately following their Downing Street flat refurbishment.

Boris, 56, has been accused of failing to declare where £58,000, which went towards the costs of the makeover, came from.

But he has denied any wrongdoing and branded the row over the refurb a "farrago of nonsense".

He said: "I have covered the costs.

"I have met the requirements I am obliged to meet in full."

Prime Ministers are entitled to £30,000 per year to maintain their Downing Street home.

'Line of Duty' star Gregory Piper - who played corrupt police officer Ryan Pilkington - is also said to be wanted for this year's 'Strictly', as are 'Good Morning Britain' weather presenters Alex Beresford and Laura Tobin.
