The ITV show is poised to return Down Under after a two-year hiatus - but the show might still have to be moved elsewhere because a highly infectious disease, called Q Fever, is currently raging through Australia.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "'I’m A Celebrity’s return to Oz was so important to ITV and was something fans of the show were hugely excited for. Another infectious disease is really the last thing ITV needs."

The disease can cause serious health problems, like organ failure, and it can also be transmitted to humans who work with animals.

The recent spike in cases in thought to have been caused by the increase in wildlife moving nearer to residential areas.

However, ITV has pledged to follow all UK and Australian guidelines.

A spokesperson for the broadcaster said: "The 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!' production will adhere to all necessary UK and Australian government guidelines."

The long-running show was filmed in the UK amid the COVID-19 pandemic. But hosts Ant and Dec previously confirmed their plans to return Down Under for the upcoming series.

Dec said: "If they let us in the country, we’ll be back in."

Ant, 46, loved filming the show in Wales during the pandemic. However, he believes that 'I'm a Celebrity' - which launched in 2002 - belongs in the Australian jungle.

He shared: "We had two lovely years in Wales ... we really enjoyed our time in Wales, but this show has to be in Australia - we have to go back."

The new series has been brought forward because of the World Cup and is expected to begin in November.
