Charlie Brooks is returning to the stage after leaving EastEnders

The actress left her role as evil Janine Butcher in the BBC soap over Christmas and now six months on from her explosive exit, Charlie has revealed she will be starring in a production of 'The Ocean at the End of the Lane' - a theatre adaption of Neil Gaiman’s fantasy novel.

Charlie confirmed the good news in a post on Instagram, telling fans she's fulfilling a lifelong dream of taking to the stage in London's famed theatre district. She wrote: "My childhood dream of being in the west end is going to happen, after 25 years in this industry and I can’t wait.

"I couldn’t have hoped for a more magical, meaningful, wild and wonderful production to be part of."

Charlie will be a part of the cast of the National Theatre production when it returns to London's West End in October following a UK tour.

The actress made a series of returns to EastEnders between 2012 and 2014 before coming back to the soap in 2021 in a huge storyline which ended in Janine's exit at the end of 2022.

She then returned in 2021 as part of a “huge story,” but her 18-month contract for the role came to an explosive end in Christmas 2022.

Charlie's previous stage experience includes a role in 'All in a Row' which ran at the Southwark Playhouse in London in 2019 as well as a play called 'Office Games' back in 2003 and 'Our Country's Good' at the Liverpool Playhouse in 2007.
