The legendary entertainer, who passed away earlier this month aged 72, held meetings with senior theatre officials before her death - and although those efforts were subsequently put on hold, various production companies are now trying to rekindle the ambition.

A source explained: "Cilla had a meeting with producers interested in turning her life story into a musical.

"She had actually granted them permission but it wasn't the right time.

"Now people are swarming around the rights. It seems the perfect time to bring her fairytale story to the stage.

"She led an incredible life both professionally and personally. If done in the right way, it would be a huge hit and sell out every night."

It's been suggested Sheridan Smith, who played the singer in ITV drama 'Cilla', could assume the role once again.

The insider told The Sun newspaper: "Sheridan's portrayal was wonderful. She's a great singer and more than capable of making the role her own."

Meanwhile, Cilla's funeral is to be held on Thursday (20.08.15) at St Mary's Church in Liverpool.
