The 'Cold Feet' actress is set to take on the role of psychiatrist Dr. Vivien Lake in the crime drama's big return to BBC One late this year.

According to The Sun newspaper's Bizarre TV column, the 51-year-old star will join leading man Idris Elba and Wunmi Mosaku for the fifth series, which will air later this year.

Hermione's casting comes after the BBC confirmed 'Luther' would be making a comeback two and a half years after the show was last on air.

The new series will see the Detective Chief Inspector John Luther and his new partner "confounded by a tangle of leads and misdirection that seems designed to protect an unspeakable horror".

The BBC has promised viewers will get "classic 'Luther'" when the show returns, and that evil Alice Morgan (Ruth Wilson) will also make a shocking comeback.

Hermione will be back on 'Cold Feet' later this year for the popular comedy drama's third series since its 2016 comeback after a 13-year gap.

Polly Hill, ITV's head of drama, previously confirmed six new episodes of the Manchester-based show, with Hermione joined by cast mates James Nesbitt, Robert Bathurst, Fay Ripley and John Thomson.

Writer and creator Mike Bullen said at the time of the announcement: "I'm delighted that viewers still feel invested in the lives and loves of our imperfect heroes. And I'm excited that we're being given the opportunity to tell the next chapter of their stories.

"We've got plenty of trials and tribulations in store for them as they navigate their way through middle age, and more than a few laughs and tears along the way."
