The 'Coronation Street' actor - whose co-stars Jennie McAlpine and Andy Whyment both enjoyed their respective stints in the jungle - has changed his stance after spending a long time turning down reality TV offers.

He told OK! magazine: "I’ve always said no to all of those shows, but then recently for some reason I've been more open to the idea.

"Jennie and Andy did the jungle and both of them said it’s the experience of a lifetime.

"If I was offered it I would be open to the idea and open to the extra pennies."

The 28-year-old star - who has played Chesney Brown on the cobbles since 2003 - seems to have been swayed after seeing Andy finish runner-up in 2019, and Jennie end up in fourth place two years earlier.

However, he still admitted he would be "uncomfortable" leaving his family for so long, particularly after his wife Briony Aston gave birth to their baby Sonny 12 months ago.

He added: "The idea of going to Australia and not having any contact whatsoever with my family makes me quite uncomfortable."

The 'I'm A Celebrity' location might not be an issue if he takes part this year, with the ITV show once again setting up camp in Gwrych Castle in Wales due to travel restrictions caused by the ongoing pandemic.

Earlier this month, Katie Rawcliffe - ITV Head of Entertainment Commissioning - said: “We can confirm today that we’ll be returning to Wales for the 2021 series of 'I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!'.

"We’ve always said we have contingencies in place for the series if the COVID situation continued to bring uncertainty, and after a highly successful run at the castle last year we’re pleased that we can return there.

"I have no doubt the production team will produce another hugely entertaining series.”
