The show judge praised the 'EastEnders' actress as "absolutely brilliant" on the dancefloor and instead of knocking her confidence, he believes her 'Strictly' survival last weekend - at the expense of Max George, who was booted off the Latin and ballroom show - could make her "a little bit stronger".

Craig said: "Maisie is fantastic - absolutely brilliant, so, so very, very good. Fantastic technique, great hip action."

When asked if he thinks Maisie's confidence might "take a little knock" after she landed in the bottom two last weekend, he said: "Sometimes that makes you a little bit stronger and makes you fight a little bit more.

"It's good to get a little jab in the backside, in order to push yourself just that little bit harder and not rely on the fact you are super-talented.

"It's about canvassing votes just as much as it is winning the hearts and minds of the judges. You have to win the hearts and minds of the nation. They are the other judge on this."

Craig was also full of praise for the newest member of the judging panel, 'Strictly' pro dancer Anton Du Beke, as he stood in for Motsi Mabuse last weekend when she was isolating.

He said: "It was fantastic to see him on the podium. I was absolutely delighted that finally he got the chance."

But Craig joked that now Anton has had a taste of giving out the scores rather than being on the receiving end, he may well do a Donald Trump and refuse to leave the panel.

Speaking on 'Lorraine', Craig joked: "I think he's going to be a little bit like Trump - difficult to remove."
