The former 'EastEnders' actor - who played Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter on the broadcaster's long-running soap from 2013 to 2022 - is set to portray a "fictionalised and heightened version of himself" in the series about a hen party that is "interrupted" by an apocalypse.

The 45-year-old star said in a statement: “When I saw the pilot for Henpocalypse! I pi***** myself laughing and I was so honoured to be asked to be a part of such an amazing job. You’re all gonna f****** love it – it’s hilarious.”

The plot is "centred around bridezilla Zara whose hen-do is interrupted by the apocalypse. She and her fellow working-class West Midlander hens face a struggle for survival while they wait out the breakdown of human civilisation in an isolated holiday cottage in Wales."

A description continues: "As the nation's favourite geezer Danny Dyer made a big impression on socially awkward Birmingham bridesmaid, Jen. So when she finds herself in a brutal post-apocalyptic world it's Danny Dyer who comes to her in her moment of crisis. Taking on the role of mentor and counsellor, he provides sage advice, psychological insight and weapons training, setting her on the path to her true destiny."

The cast also includes Elizabeth Berrington as Zara’s formidable mother Bernadette, Lucie Shorthouse as demanding bride Zara, Callie Cooke as put upon chief bridesmaid Shelly, Lauren O’Rourke as conspiracy theorist beautician Veena, Kate O’Flynn as one woman disaster area Jen and Ben McGregor as entrepreneurial stripper Drew.

Meanwhile, Danny previously admitted to feeling "very emotional" when he left 'EastEnders'.

However, the actor also revealed that he stank while shooting his final scenes, in which his landlord alter-ego got lost at sea.

He said: "My final scenes were in the sea, in Ramsgate at 2am. We did the exteriors in the sea and the interiors you go to a water tank. But 'EastEnders' couldn't get Pinewood, so we had to go to Basildon.

"It's all warm and lovely but to make it look like the sea they put broccoli juice in it. You smell of a***. It's f****** broccoli juice. Warm broccoli juice. It was very emotional, but I stunk.

"If it goes t*** up I can go back. I can turn up in three years' time, walk in the Queen Vic smothered in seaweed...

"They wanted to keep it open. I'm very privileged and grateful for that job. It really did change my career and my life."
