The Channel 4 show sees eight celebrities stuck in a pitch-black bunker - a purpose-built living space designed to block out all light - for eight days, with their terrifying experience captured by 50 infrared cameras.

And it's proved such a hit that the show is said to be poised to return for more scares.

A source told The Sun on Sunday: “Scared Of The Dark was a bit of a risk. It could have been really dull or fascinating and fortunately for telly bosses it was the latter and Danny was a huge part of its success.

“It’s filmed over a few weeks in the summer so it’s really easy to get in the can.

“It was a no-brainer for bosses to order another series – they just have to convince celebs to sign up."

The show aired over five successive nights, following the celebrities as they got used to living in the dark, and the only way to escape to the light is to shout: "I'm scared of the dark."

The lineup included former 'Strictly Come Dancing' favourite Nicola Adams, 'Gogglebox's Scarlett Moffatt, football legend Paul Gascoigne, The Wanted singer Max George, 'Love Island' star Chloe Burrows, boxer Chris Eubank, comedian Chris McCausland, and actress Donna Preston.

Former footballer Paul, 55, was crowned the first-ever winner of the competition.
