The 33-year-old singer has asked his pal - who wrote most of the group's biggest hits, as well as songs for other artists - to share some tips with his hopeful Sam Wilkinson as he's planning to perform his own original track.

Speaking to Christine Lampard on 'Lorraine', he said: "[Sam's doing his] own song and I brought Tom in to help structure it and give Sam confidence and inner belief to do this for a final.

"I mentor in a way that I want him to have the internal belief to protect him from the external."

The 'All About You' hitmaker is proud his contestant is performing an original song and doesn't think Sam needs much help to become a fully-fledged recording artist, despite only being a teenager.

Danny added: "He's now an artist. I think this could be released the day after and be successful. He's ready to make an album, he's ready to go.

"Just needs a few more songs and he'll be there - that's amazing at 13 years old."

The talented teen is "excited" for the final and will be up against the other judge's finalists.

Jessie J, Pixie Lott, and Will.i.am have been mentoring Keira Laver, Gracie-Jayne Fitzgerald and Lil Shan Shan respectively and all three will go head-to-head against Sam at the weekend.

Meanwhile, Danny has been working on his solo career, having released a five-track EP 'Signs' in June 2019, but admitted he was "scared" of going it alone originally.

He said: "I didn't want every song to be just about my upbringing. I have other songs about me coming home and finding my mum crying and my dad having an affair.

"We'll get to that, there's time for that to come out. I was scared at first, but I felt a real kind of release from it."

The Voice Kids final airs Saturday at 8pm on ITV.
