The 48-year-old children's author is set to excite thrill seekers as the resort unveils 'The World of David Walliams' - inspired by his books and hit TV series 'Gangsta Granny' - which is set to open in Spring 2020 to celebrate 40 years of the UK theme park.

David said: "I'm absolutely thrilled that 'Gangsta Granny' is becoming a ride at Alton Towers. I never imagined it would happen so it's a real delight to see my characters brought to life in a ride.

"I've worked really closely with the team at Alton Towers to make sure the ride is just as funny and exciting as the book. I think children and their parents ... and even their grandparents! ... are going to love it!"

The best-selling book follows the tale of Ben who discovers that his Granny is secretly an international jewel thief, which was later adapted as a television-film for the BBC.

Guests will be able to whizz, twist and spin through some of the most magical books as the 4D experience will see them join the main characters as they attempt to steal the crown jewels.

'Gangsta Granny: The Ride' will board passengers onto a Royal Carriage before they get caught up in Ben and Granny's adventure.

They will be able to experience a fresh re-telling of the tale as they follow the characters into the sewers, watch them be chased through the streets of London and even come face to face with the Queen.

Alton Towers is also offering younger visitors a chance to bring along their Grandparents to the theme park for free throughout 2020.

Guests can also enjoy a sleepover surrounded by their favourite characters and hidden treasures in one of four 'Gangsta Granny' themed bedrooms in the Alton Towers Hotel.
