The comic duo are best known for creating BBC sketch show 'Little Britain' in the early 2000s - which featured iconic characters such as Vicky Pollard and Dafydd Thomas - but time constraints and other commitments mean they haven't been able to find the time to pen a potential reboot just yet.

David told The Daily Star newspaper: "It is still very much on the cards but the pandemic and other things have caused us problems with meeting up and writing. Matt was working over summer because he does 'Bake Off' and has to stay in a hotel and isn’t allowed out."

The 'Britain's Got Talent' judge went on to reveal how his co-star has been so busy he couldn't even attend his birthday bash.

He said: "He couldn’t even come to my birthday party. Then I was busy and next thing he is filming for the new Willy Wonka movie. I notice I wasn’t asked to be in it! We will get together at some point but we will have to see what happens."

It comes after the pair felt the need to apologise for using blackface in their programmes, which aired over a decade ago, and expressed regret for using makeup to appear as a different race.

In a statement, David said: "Matt and I have both spoken publicly in recent years of our regret that we played characters of other races. Once again we want to make it clear that it was wrong and we are very sorry."

The prolific children's author has also previously admitted he wouldn't make 'Little Britain' these days due to its potentially offensive nature.

He said: "If I could go back and do 'Little Britain' again, I wouldn’t make those jokes about transvestites.

"I wouldn’t play black characters. Basically, I wouldn’t make that show now. It would upset people. We made a more cruel kind of comedy than I’d do now."
