Derek Jacobi and Anne Reid have returned for the second series of 'Last Tango in Halifax'.

The 73-year-old actor and the 'Marchlands' star are reprising their roles in the BBC hit drama, written by Sally Wainwright, as love struck septuagenarians Alan and Celia, who rekindle their romance after 60 years apart.

Filming for the second series has kicked off in various locations around the north of England and will pick up from the dramatic storyline that had viewers nibbling at their nails and perching on the edge of their seats at the end of last year.

After Alan (Derek) suffered a serious heart attack and the couple's wedding was hanging in the balance, viewers were left wondering if Celia (Anne) would lose the love of her life once again.

Sally Wainwright said: "The second series will bring even more dramatic twists, trials and tribulations for the characters with Alan and Celia's love story continuing to be the beating heart of the series."

Celia's daughter Caroline - played by Sarah Lancashire - will be forced to face up to her newly discovered sexuality, while Alan's daughter Gillian (Nicola Walker) finds herself in a disastrous love triangle after cheating on her partner with Caroline's husband.

Tony Gardner, Dean Andrews, Nina Sosanya and Ronni Ancona will also return to the six-part romantic drama, which is produced by Red Production Company.

Nicola Shindler, Executive Producer of Red Production Company, said: "When we started developing 'Last Tango in Halifax' we wanted to make a love story first and foremost.

"The audience instantly warmed to the simple and sincere affection between Alan and Celia, which endured despite the dramatic events that transpired around them. Series two promises even more ups and downs putting even the strongest bonds to the test."
