A programme is in development where 10 famous faces will be put through their paces as they try to master the dance steps from the classic 1987 film, which starred Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey and producers are convinced the show will be a hit thanks to the recent success of the likes of 'The Masked Dancer' and 'The Greatest Dancer'.

A source told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre TV column: “This is one of the best-loved films of all time and offers a really clever theme which will allow them to get celebs dancing.

“But the moves aren’t easy. After all, the late, great Swayze was a professional dancer.

"Since 'Strictly' there’s been a long line of attempts to tap into viewers’ renewed love of dance.”

Even the movie's star Jennifer - who played teenager Frances 'Baby' Houseman - has admitted she struggled with some of the moves during filming.

She previously said: "I remember doing the big dance finale and they had just painted the stage and it was sticky. The paint would stick to my feet so I couldn't turn."

She also revealed that she had practiced the movie's famous signature lift in a "very cold" lake even though she didn't think it was "healthy" to be in the water.

Jennifer said: "I remember swimming in the lake was very, very, very cold. You have to be really young and hungry to get in water that cold for that long. It was not good. I remember thinking, 'Can you die if your nipples explode?' It just didn't feel healthy to be in that water."

Patrick died of cancer in 2009.

In the original 1987 film, Baby falls for her dance instructor Johnny Castle at a holiday resort in the 1960s.

The movie was hugely popular after its release and landed an Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Original Song for Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes' '(I've Had) The Time of My Life', which Johnny and Baby danced to in the motion picture.
