The 'This Morning' host took to his Twitter account to criticise the 'Steal My Girl' hitmakers after they cancelled their gig in his hometown of Belfast, Northern Ireland at the last minute after Liam Payne was taken ill.

Replying to a journalist who claimed he had been scheduled to interview Liam's bandmate Niall Horan earlier in the day but that he'd had to pull out because of illness, Eamonn wrote on Twitter: "So are they all sick ? At least they should get their story straight. (sic)"

The 55-year-old presenter and news anchor added that even if one or two of them had fallen ill, the others should have come on stage to explain the situation.

He added: "I don't care who was sick in #OneDirection Direction. Rest of them should have had the decency & maturity to appear on stage and explain. (sic)"

Eamonn's comments came after a spokesperson for Liam, Niall and their bandmates Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson released a statement explaining their absence.

It read: "Unfortunately One Direction have had to cancel tonight's concert in Belfast.

"Liam has been taken suddenly ill, and the concert will sadly not be taking place.

"Fans have been asked to hold on to their tickets and there will be a further statement tomorrow. The band apologise to their fans and wish Liam well as soon as possible."

Eamonn added that One Direction had been "disrespectful" to their fans by not speaking to them directly.

He added: "For all of you who can't read , I didn't ask for #OneDirection to Sing , I asked for them to Apologise in person to fans who turned up.

"It's just a question of taking responsibility and being respectful. That's all. (sic)"
