Emma Atkins jokes that murder is the only storyline her character Charity Dingle hasn't done

The 48-year-old actress has played Charity Dingle on the ITV soap since 2000, and she thinks at this point the only fresh plot point for her character would be a pivot to being a killer.

She told the Daily Star newspaper: “I think I’ve blackmailed, but I’ve not killed anyone. Then again, when they say a character’s killed someone then it’s slippery slope.”

Emma quipped it would be “boring” to wish happiness on Charity.

She said: “I think she’s pretty much done everything. To say I’d want her to be happy is a bit boring.”

Recently, Emma teased a “magical” moment when Charity realises that her husband Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) is the father of Chloe Harris’ baby Reuben as the new mother - who is played by Jessie Elland - asks if he wants to see his son as she recovers from meningitis and his wife overhears.

She said: "There's a moment in the village where we bump into each other, and Mackenzie doesn't know that Charity knows and that is magical."

Her 31-year-old co-star added that they used a filming technique that hadn’t “ever been done in a soap before".

Lawrence said: "Then there's a scene immediately after that, that we all shot together and that was a learning experience for us all,

"When it all comes out, hopefully, we've done it justice but I don't think it's ever been done in soap before, what we did."

Emma added: "It just breaks a few of the boundaries of normal soap filming."

Emma admitted: “We had a blast filming it. A normal scene is usually four or five pages, and that's a big scene. This was like 17 or 18 pages, so it's a continuation, and it's the unravelling."
