Eva Longoria is convinced ‘Desperate Housewives’ would be ‘cancelled’ today

The 48-year-old played supermodel Gabrielle Solis on the popular ABC television series which ran from 2004 to 2012, but the actress believes its storylines – including murder and Gabrielle’s statutory rape of her 17-year-old gardener John Rowland (played by Jesse Metcalfe) – wouldn’t see the light of day now.

Eva told Entertainment Tonight: “I don’t know if we could do the show today. I think we’d get cancelled.

“I mean, not cancelled on TV but like cancelled in culture because it was so groundbreaking... we said and did so many things that were shocking at the time.”

Eva recently said about being willing to return for a reboot of the show: “I’d be the first one to sign up. I’d probably be the only one.”

She added in a chat with Mario Lopez for Access Hollywood: “I miss Gabby so much! I miss being Gabby Solis.”

But she admitted series creator Marc Cherry, 61, isn’t up for a reboot, saying: “Marc wouldn’t do it, our creator. I’ve talked to him several times. He feels like, ‘Why now?’, like, for the sake of a reboot. He wouldn’t do it.

“He wants to know like, ‘What do I have to say with these characters that we haven’t already fully mined?’”

She added Marc said: “You know, I come from the generation of 24 episodes a year for a decade of our lives. Like, there’s no more six-episode per season stuff that there is now. This was like 24 episodes a year. We fully mined those characters.'”
