The former 'X Factor' contestants- who both appeared on the ITV talent show in 2012 - reconnected virtually as part of BT’s +1 campaign which encourages people to get back in touch with loved ones to battle loneliness.

Rylan said: "We were two people on this massive show that everyone was talking about, sharing the same journey, and we built this indescribable bond. Since the show, our lives went separate ways.

"We both had things to do and only one opportunity to chase after what we’re doing today. But we always supported each other – I remember, I did my first gig after the show and I brought Lucy on stage. The crowd went wild...

"Every now and then we’ll catch-up on text, but the last time I properly got to sit down and see her was more than seven years ago. But that’s the sign of a good friend.

"No matter whether its 10 or 20 years, with me and Lucy I know it’ll be the same. You’re going to end up with a pair of naughty children."

As part of the campaign, Rylan also delivered a special rendition of 'Let it Snow' as part of a carol service duet with the EE Inspire Choir for care home residents who have been involved in BT’s Care Home Companion programme.

Large screen TVs were delivered to the care homes so staff and residents could experience the one-hour live sing-along service at a time where it would have proved difficult to do so.

He added: “This year, it feels more important than ever to stay connected, but that isn’t always easy.

"Just because people are out of sight, shouldn’t mean they’re out of mind, and technology has played a huge role in allowing me to touch base with people that mean the most to me; whether that’s dropping a text to check-in, hosting a dinner party over video call, or being able to spread a little extra cheer with a virtual performance."
