Gail Porter struggles to get more than three hours of sleep

The 52-year-old TV star has been open about her battle with insomnia and as she takes to the stage at the Edinburgh Fringe for her one-woman show 'Hung, Drawn and Portered' admitted that she struggles to get her head down and then finds herself exceptionally tired after completing her show.

Speaking on ITV's 'Lorraine', she told stand-in host Ranvir Singh: "Last night, I finished the show and I was supposed to go out for dinner and then I couldn't because I fell asleep at 11 o'clock, then I woke up at midnight, then I woke up at three, then I woke up at four. I just don't get a full night's sleep. I get so tired. I can't remember the last time I got five hours. I get really excited if I make it to three."

The former 'Celebrity Big Brother' star - who suffers from alopecia - is open about the trials and tribulations of her life in her new show and decided that rather than "feeling sorry " for herself, she could make light of it all and unite others who had gone through similar struggles.

She added: "The show is about my life but trying to make it funny. A lot of people know what I've been through but some people don't. I've gone from doing my television stuff in the '90s, to losing my hair, losing my parents, losing my house, being homeless. Getting sectioned. Standard!

"And then getting myself back on my feet again. You either feel sorry for yourself or you can make it into something funny. The amount of people I speak to when I'm doing this show who have gone through stuff that I've gone through, everyone has gone through, we can all sort of laugh about it."

'Gail Porter: Hung, Drawn and Portered' runs at the Edinburgh Fringe until August 28.
