TVLine are this week reporting that FOX are now looking to cast a pair of new villains for the second season of Gotham, the first being a "male DC villain" who's "intelligent, cultured and highly articulate," as well as "extremely attractive, both seductive and threatening". The second is a "sexy knock-out" female in her "mid-to-late 20s".

With the first described as a "DC villain" it's implied that he will have roots in comic book mythology, but there's the possibility that he'll not necessarily be an early incarnation of Mad Hatter or Clayface - both of whom have been promised to debut in the show's second outing.

Giving no promises on whether the second will be a villain the fans all know, it's quite likely that another original character will be brought to the screen for James Gordon to fend off whilst young Batman Bruce Wayne battles his way through adolescence.

Along with the return of a darker Edward Nygma and the young Joker, Gotham now has the potential to improve upon its first offering and bring some real action to the small screen in a way that was sometimes lacking in season one.

Gotham's second season will air on FOX in late 2015/early 2016.
