Hairy Bikers fans are being scammed after Dave Myers' death

The TV chef - who revealed he had been diagnosed with cancer two years ago - tragically died last month aged 66, and now some people have set up fake fundraising pages impersonating his friend and co-star Si King.

A post on the official Hairy Bikers Facebook page reads: "Many of you have been emailing us pointing out that fake profiles are appearing on Facebook and Instagram, the latest one is of Si King.

"Our Team has been desperately trying to get Meta, the owners of Facebook and Instagram to remove these fake profiles for the past 2 weeks without success."

The team included a screenshot of one of the fake pages, noting that it doesn't feature a blue kick next to Si's name.

They continued: "There are instances where a 'post' has a link to a Bitcoin scam asking for donations to a cancer charity in the name of Dave Myers.

"Rest assured, this is not genuine in any shape or form."

The Hairy Bikers team said 1,000 people have "fallen for the fake profile", and urged them to unfollow the page and report it to Facebook.

They continued: "To add to the confusion, the people behind the scam are copying posts that we are genuinely uploading to our own page.

"If you all join in and report the fake, Facebook may wake up when they see some 600,000+ reports in their inbox. #MarkZuckerberg take note

"We gratefully appreciate your help and kindness. Help us drop this. It's not in the name of the Hairy Bikers. Shocking Meta's lack of action."

Bearded celebrity cooks Dave and Si were well known as the Hairy Bikers.

They have presented numerous motorcycling travelogues together, in which they would travel around the UK, and further afield, on motorbikes and stop off to sample some local delicacies, as well as cook up some tasty treats themselves.

Si announced Dave's passing last month as he wrote on X: "Hi everyone, I’m afraid I bear some sad news. Most of you will know Dave has been fighting cancer for the past couple of years.

"Last night, on 28th February 2024, with Lili, Dave’s wife, his family, close friend David and myself by his side, he passed away peacefully at home.

"All who knew Dave are devastated at his passing. His beloved wife brought him such happiness as did her children, Iza and Sergiu who Dave loved like his own.

"Personally, I am not sure I can put into words on how I feel at the moment. My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can’t follow."
