Sarah Lancashire will reprise her role as Sergeant Catherine Cawood for the third and final series of Sally Wainwright’s multi-BAFTA award winning drama series, and 'Inside No. 9' will return with a festive film.

Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith will be joined by guest stars Shobna Gulati and Simon Callow in 'The Bones of St. Nicholas', as they serve up a disturbingly spooky Christmas story set in a mysterious church.

'Two Doors Down', 'Blankety Blank', 'Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing' and 'Pointless' will also get the festive special treatment, and 'Frankie Boyle's 2022 New World Order' will see the comedian dissect 2022, with the help of some guests.

What's more, 'Bad Education' will return on BBC Three, in which Jack Whitehall will reprise his role as big kid teacher Alfie Wickers, who reunites with his old students one last time as they return to Abbey Grove for a joyfully chaotic careers day.

For the youngsters, 'The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse' - based on Charlie Mackesy’s book - will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, as will 'The Smeds and the Smoos', based on the best-selling picture book by creators Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.

On New Year’s Eve, Jools Holland will host his annual 'Hootenanny', and Eurovision star Sam Ryder will be joined by some of music’s biggest stars to put on a spectacular New Year’s Eve party in 'Sam Ryder's All Star New Year's Eve'.

Charlotte Moore, BBC’s Chief Content Officer, said: "Nothing brings people across the UK together like Christmas on the BBC and this year we’ve got a world-class line-up like no other. Get ready to escape and be entertained with an incredible range of new festive shows across every genre, live or on demand, there’s something for everyone."
