The former 'EastEnders' actress - who starred as Zainab Masood on the BBC One soap for six years before departing the programme in 2013 - has insisted she's not looking forward to the sequins and make-up when she hits the BBC One Latin and ballroom contest's dancefloor this weekend.

Speaking during a press conference ahead of the show's return on Saturday (18.09.21), Nina admitted when asked if she was excited about her Strictly' makeovers: "I hate it!"

"When I played Zainab Masood in 'EastEnders', I was like, 'Don't worry about her hair and make-up. Just make her as plain as possible!'

"I'm very much a T-shirt and jeans girl, but I do get dressed up for the things I've had to do like TV appearances."

She quipped: "I don't like sitting in the make-up chair for too long. I don't like pulling on my hair and shiny things just scratch me and irritate me actually. This is the best show for me to be doing isn't it!"

And while the 52-year-old star has insisted she can't take the "glitz and glamour" of 'Strictly' seriously, she means business when it comes to nailing the moves.

She added: "Oh, yeah, I will take it seriously. I do that for any job I do – that's just me.

"But, I need to have the comedy there in order to get through it because I can't take the glitz and glamour side of it seriously.

"What I can take seriously is the actual technical stuff. I genuinely want to learn how to do these dances."

'Strictly Come Dancing' launches on Saturday 18th September on BBC One and iPlayer.
