James Buckley thinks acting can be terrifying

The 36-year-old star has been in the business since he was a teenager and famously played sex-mad sixth former Jay Cartwright in E4 sitcom 'The Inbetweeners' during the late 2000s.

But the star has not been seen on TV acting for five years, and admitted upon his return that he still finds the whole thing "terrifying" .

He told Metro newspaper's Guilty Pleasures column: "[My return] was like riding a bike if I was a man that had never learned to ride a bike!

"I've never felt comfortable. I find all this stuff nerve-racking. It excites me and it can be really fun but it's also terrifying because I'm like anyone else."

During his break from the small screen, the former 'White Gold' star has become the first famous face to earn £1 million through the celebrity greetings website Cameo, but he can now be seen alongside 'Men Behaving Badly' actor Neil Morrissey in the Channel 5 drama 'Finders Keepers'.

The four-part series focuses on a metal detector enthusiast who finds a Saxon hoard, along with his fiancée’s father (Neil), and attempts to sell it.

Reflecting on his role in the series with RadioTimes.com, James said: “It’s obviously very serious, but I think me and Neil … our job is to play it for truth, and to be truthful to the script and to the text. And I think the truth was that we both saw the comedy in it a lot of times as well.

"There's some stuff that's really dark, and it goes to places where you don't imagine - especially someone like me, who's pretty much been strictly comedy throughout their whole career, it goes to places where you don't imagine that - and I think that could be quite a surprise.”
