The 'Late Late Show' host has tweeted a message of support after the 57-year-old star announced he is gay on Friday (07.02.20), and he paid tribute to "anyone struggling" to come to terms with their own sexuality.

He wrote: "Incredibly proud of @Schofe today. For anyone struggling today know that you are brave and you are loved x"

The 'This Morning' presenter - who has been married to wife Stephanie Lowe since 1993 - shared a statement on Instagram revealing the news, before appearing live on 'This Morning' alongside his co-host Holly, 38, to tell viewers that he is homosexual.

Taking to social media, Phillip initially said: "You never know what's going on in someone's seemingly perfect life, what issues they are struggling with, or the state of their wellbeing - and so you won't know what has been consuming for the last few years. With the strength and support of my wife and my daughters, I have been coming to terms with the fact that I am gay."

He continued: "My inner conflict contrasts with an outside world that has changed so very much for the better. Today, quite rightly, being gay is a reason to celebrate and be proud. Yes, I am feeling pain and confusion, but that comes only from the hurt that I am causing my family.

"Steph has been incredible - I love her so very much. She is the kindest soul I have ever met. My girls have been astonishing in their love, hugs, encouraging words of comfort."

Shortly after his post to Instagram, Holly shared a loving photo of the pair and captioned: "Never been more proud of my friend than I am today. We'll be together at 10am on This Morning x"

Other members of the 'This Morning' family reached out to their dear friend to commend him for his bravery.

Dr Ranj Singh - who was married when he came out as gay - said he was 'beaming with pride' for the presenter, before adding that he was a 'blubbering mess' today watching Phillip speak about his journey.

He wrote on Twitter: "Coming to terms with & being your authentic self is never easy, especially in the public eye.

"What @Schofe has done is incredibly courageous, powerful & will help so many. I am beaming with pride for him. I'm even more proud of his family who seem so wonderful."
