The actor - who plays Zack Hudson in the BBC One soap - has revealed that his spouse Ali Roff Farrer has been working on some mystery scenes with him as he cannot get too close to the other actors due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He explained: "My wife has been coming in regularly because you can’t come within two metres of people.

"So say there’s a kiss, say there’s punch, that will be Ali a lot of the time!"

And James is thrilled he gets to share the special experience with his wife.

He said: "We were in the Vic at one point. Ali just turned to me and said, ‘this carpet... Barbara Windsor has walked on this carpet’.

"And I looked at her and we just had goosebumps. It’s so recognisable, and it’s special. I feel quite blown away."

Meanwhile, James - who previously played Liam Gilmore in the Channel 4 soap 'Hollyoaks' - made his debut on the BBC One last month as Sharon Mitchell's (Letitia Dean) long-lost brother Zack, and he is set to get close to Maddy Hill's returning character Nancy Carter.

He previously said: "There's a certain blonde who is returning that I have a feeling there might be some friction with.

"Considering a lot of my scenes are with the Carters, I'm sure you'll be able to guess who that is."

James admitted he would work with Letitia every day if he could, and he will thank the 'EastEnders' legend until his "dying day" for how welcoming she has been since he joined the soap.

He added: "I also just really look forward to working with Tish every day. If I could work with her every day, I would. I don't know how much you know about Tish but she is incredible. I will thank her until my dying day for how she has treated me.

"We text, we call. She was the first person who text me after my first appearance, saying, 'You stole the show, you were a sight for sore eyes.'

"I really look forward to doing more stuff with her."
