The Channel 4 show are due to celebrate their 25-year anniversary in October, and the 45-year-old star - who recently reprised his role as Warren Fox, who he has played on and off since 2006 - believes the programme regularly tries things out that other soaps don't.

He exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "'Hollyoaks' are always brave and try different things.

"This year, especially with it being the 25th anniversary, they've just really stepped up their game.

"Some of the stuff we're producing is really fantastic.

"I've always been proud to be part of 'Hollyoaks', and that will always remain.

"It always sets the benchmark in trying stuff, in terms of things that other shows wouldn't necessarily try."

Jamie's latest Warren plot has seen his character come face-to-face with a figure from his past, Felix Westwood (Richard Blackwood), and the star has found it fascinating to delve into his alter ego's backstory after so long on the show.

He added: "Seeing grown, strong, powerful men reliving their pasts and going back into those dark places is really interesting to play.

"I think the audience are going to love watching it.

"I think it's really clever how 'Hollyoaks' do things, and this storyline has got a lot of legs.

"These two characters will be working a lot together I would imagine."

Jamie recently admitted that while Warren and Felix don't see eye-to-eye, it's the complete opposite for himself and Richard.

He added: "When I found out Richard was coming onto the show I direct messaged him on Instagram and said, 'I've just been told you're starting at 'Hollyoaks', I just want to welcome you to the family. I can't wait to work with you, I'm a big fan.'

"I think he really appreciated that. We became mates instantly.

"We have a really good chemistry on set together, and a laugh more than anything else. He's a funny guy. We laugh and we joke.

"But when it's time to be serious we do some serious work."
