Jeremy McConnell has been taking voluntary drugs tests to prove he is a "different person" since heading to rehab.

The Irish model was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison after assaulting his former girlfriend Stephanie Davis - with whom he has 18-month-old son - Caben-Albi - in March 2017, and after completing a stint in rehab following his release, he has said he's now "the happiest he's ever been".

He said: "I am the happiest I have ever been in my life and will continue to live this way, regardless of any stupid stories. I am very excited about the future. I have lots of plans."

Jeremy insists he's a changed man, and has been taking regular drugs tests which are "not a requirement" of his probation, in order to prove to his loved ones that he is on the straight and narrow.

Speaking to Daily Star Online, he added: "I made a decision to participate in regular drugs tests, on a voluntary basis.

"This was not a requirement of my probation to have the tests, but I wanted to do them, particularly given to ongoing ridiculous stories, where it appears people fail to accept I'm a different person to what I was a year ago."

The publication claims to have seen proof that Jeremy has been clean since April this year.

It isn't the first time the former 'Celebrity Big Brother' star has claimed to have turned his life around, as he recently argued that Stephanie has been trying to give a "wholly inaccurate" picture of the situation between them and blocking his attempts to see the little boy.

He said: "It's extremely upsetting that Stephanie has continually chosen not to engage with my team and follow the appropriate channels to arrange in time access with our son.

"Since last year Stephanie has continued to paint a picture of me that is wholly inaccurate and gives a perception in public, the press and online that I don't want to see Caben.

"All I want is for our son to have me back in his life."

The 'Hollyoaks' actress has accused Jeremy of "not paying a penny" for his son and "never asking to see him" but he insists that isn't the case, calling for her to "let go" of her issues for the sake of their son.

He added: "Looking back I understand that was a chaotic time in my life and I didn't recognise myself. I'm a much stronger person now and for that I'll be forever grateful.

"I'm sure in time Stephanie can let go of the anger and personal issues she is dealing with so Caben's arrangements can be formally dealt with like adults.

"I won't stay silent over this and not try to be in my sons life. Caben deserves to have his dad in his life."
