Jinkx Monsoon says they are ‘honoured’ and ‘utterly excited’ to join ‘Doctor Who’ in a ‘major role’

It emerged on Monday (03.04.23) the 35-year-old drag performer, comic and two-time ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ winner – who goes by they/them pronouns – is joining the show, and has now confirmed they will join the BBC One show after finishing their debut run as Matron ‘Mama’ Morton in Broadway’s longest-running show ‘Chicago’.

Jinkx – real name is Jerick Roman Lamar Hoffer – said: “I’m honoured, thrilled, and utterly excited to join Doctor Who!

Russell T Davies is a visionary and a brilliant writer – I can’t wait to get into the weeds with him and the crew! I hope there’s room in the TARDIS for my luggage.”

‘Doctor Who’ showrunner Russell T Davies, 59, had excitedly announced about Jinkx joining the series: “In a galaxy of comets and supernovas, here comes the biggest star of all.

“Jinkx Monsoon is on a collision course with the TARDIS, and Doctor Who will never be the same again!”

Jinkx was the first drag queen to play the role of Mama Morton, breaking box office records in her extended eight-week run.

They were also crowned ‘Queen of Queens’ in an All Stars season of ‘Drag Race’ while competing against other show winners.

Doctor Who returns in November 2023 with three special episodes, starring David Tennant, 51, as the fourteenth Doctor to coincide with the show’s 60th anniversary.

Actor Ncuti Gatwa, 30, will make his first episode as the fifteenth Doctor will then air over the festive period.

A source told the Daily Mirror about Russell’s plans for the upcoming series: “Russell’s on a mission to make ‘Doctor Who’ great again – event television not to be missed.”

‘Doctor Who’ will premiere exclusively on the BBC for Britain and Ireland and Disney+ will be the exclusive home for new seasons of the series outside the UK and Ireland.
