Th 26-year-old presenter and his professional partner Amy Dowden wowed the 'Strictly' judges with their eye-catching jive to the 'Hairspray' track 'You Can't Stop The Beat'.

Karim and Amy's stellar performance saw them climb to the top of the leaderboard with a score of 40 - the first time the score has been achieved during the current series.

Shirley Ballas described their routine as "flawless".

Bruno Tonioli said: "I have shivers going down my spine.

"That was a mind blowing performance [...] The best jive we've ever seen on 'Strictly'. You are a champion in my eyes already."

The perfect score capped an impressive turnaround from Karim, who found himself in the dreaded dance-off last weekend.

Elsewhere, Emma Barton and Anton du Beke earned a points total of 39 thanks to their impressive Charleston.

The score is, in fact, the highest points total Anton has ever managed on the BBC show, after 17 series and more than 100 dances.

Shirley praised the duo for their performance, saying: "You just fast-tracked your way to the final."

By contrast, Alex Scott and her pro partner Neil Jones failed to impress the judges with their samba, as their routine earned them a relatively meagre 27 points.

However, the couple only finished one point behind Chris Ramsey, who also failed to shine on the night.
