The 54-year-old TV presenter took to Instagram on Sunday (06.06.21) to say that she, daughter Darcey, 15, and 11-year-old son Billy went on a half-term holiday, while Derek’s parents looked after him at home.

Derek, 53, was hospitalised after contracting coronavirus last year and still needs round-the-clock care as he continues his recovery at home.

Posting a video on Instagram, Kate wrote: "#paradise Thanks to the wonderful mum dad & sisters draper for coming down to be with Derek (with nurses too of course) so I could take my mum dad , Darcey & Billy to Cornwall. (sic)"

After previously revealing a car belonging to Derek had been stolen from outside their home in 2020, she also thanked motor manufacturers Peugeot for lending them a vehicle for the trip.

She wrote: "And thanks so so much to @peugeotuk for lending us a car to get us there! We got to see my brother aunts uncles cousins & new baby cousins!

"None of us have been able to get to see each other since Xmas 2019. So much love & v emotional - not that it made our annual football match any less competitive!!!

"Hope you have all had a great #halfterm xxx #specialmemories (sic)"

Derek returned home in April after spending a year in hospital.

In March 2020, he tested positive for coronavirus, which left him with clots in his lungs, holes in his heart and diabetes.

His symptoms were so severe he had to be placed in an induced coma for months.
