The ‘Good Morning Britain’ anchor spoke about the impact of her husband - with whom she has 16-year-old daughter Darcey and 13-year-old son Billy - being bed bound and needing round the clock care since he was left with serious health issues after coming down with the coronavirus in March 2020 had taken on her mental wellbeing.

Speaking in a video posted to Instagram to mark World Mental Health Day on Monday (10.10.2022), the 55-year-old broadcaster said: "In the documentary, you saw me frustrated, depressed, emotional.

"And I've been all of those and more in recent weeks and months and more.”

Kate explained that it was hard because she couldn’t visualise “an endpoint” to what was happening to Derek, who she wanted to get better.

She said: "Because that's the thing with caring, you want it to carry on because you want the person to be surviving and still with you, so that you CAN care for them, but there isn't an endpoint and it doesn't get any easier."

Derek - whose struggles have been shared in documentaries like ‘Finding Derek’, which won a National Television Award - ended up back in hospital last month, something that was a labelled a “hammer blow” to the television executive-turned therapist.

A source said: "This is another hammer blow for poor Derek.

"He is giving the fight against Covid his absolute all, but his kidneys have suffered some pretty serious damage.

"Doctors explained there was no alternative but to operate. Of course, Kate and the family are worried but she’s been reassured the procedure itself is routine.

"Everyone has everything crossed, and Kate is being her usual stoical self and keeping everything running, business as usual, on the home front."
