The 61-year-old actor starred as Curly Watts on the long-running ITV soap for 20 years and would like to know what his character - who famously married and divorced barmaid Raquel Wolstenhulme during his time on the cobbles - has been up to since quitting the role back in 2003.

He said: "A return to 'Corrie' would be quite brilliant, actually. Where Curly has been, what he is doing. People are interested to know that sort of thing. They like to know what has happened to old characters. I have a very good relationship with ITV so we'll just have to wait and see."

Meanwhile, Kevin had a well-documented battle with alcoholism during his time on the show and explained that ITV bosses stook an American approach to the situation by sending him to a rehabilitation clinic and he has since set up a charity called Kennedy Street to help others battling addiction.

He told the Metro newspaper's SixtySeconds column: "ITV took the American route of rehabilitation for their employees. This was 1998 and if you had an addiction problem, a lot of companies would just get rid of you. But they went with this new fad - as it was at the time - and sent me to rehab. That was a massive boost because it gave me a sense of self-worth.

" Kennedy Street has been going for 20-odd years. We set it up as a place you could ring and we would try to point you in the right direction. We now have a hub in Brighton, which we're setting up so people can come and go to meetings and have one-to-one advice on what to do next."
