The 49-year-old pop princess shot to fame on the Australian soap as Charlene Robinson from 1986 to 1988, and while she hasn't ruled out a return to the Channel 5 show, she doesn't think it would be a successful move to bring her character back.

She said: "I don't think we're going to get there. I don't even know how I would be Charlene any more.

"Never say never about anything, but I just think it would be a let-down.

"I think Charlene lives in that time and lives in people's memories.

"Anything could happen - but no, it's not happening at this point."

While Kylie looks unlikely to be stepping foot in Erinsborough anytime soon, her former co-star Annie Jones is to return to the soap as Jane Harris, who was better known as Plain Jane Superbrain, and the 'I Should Be So Lucky' hitmaker is "incredibly excited" about the news.

Speaking on podcast 'The Dan Wootton Interview', she added: "I mean, it hasn't stopped me being incredibly excited that Plain Jane Superbrain is about to make a return to Neighbours.

"This is the best thing I've heard in ages. Oh my God."

While Kylie worries she might be a "let down" if she reprises her role Down Under, Annie also admitted this week she is concerned her return will leave 'Neighbours' fans "disappointed".

She exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "My only nerves are that I hope I don't disappoint people.

"I hope they don't watch the show and are disappointed in me - that would be awful.

"I was chomping at the bit, I was so eager and keen. I even loved getting up early."
