The 'Birds of a Feather' star was 70 when she competed on the BBC One ballroom show and she has got nothing but admiration for the former news reader for taking part at the ripe age of 78.

Lesley says Angela - who hosted 'Come Dancing', the programme that gave birth to 'Strictly' - is going to surprise the judges, Anton Du Beke, 57, Shirley Ballas, 63, Motsi Mabuse, 42, and Craig Revel Horwood, 57, and viewers at home with her flexibility.

Lesley, 77, told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Seventy seems young now. I’ll be watching Angela. She will be brilliant – and she can do the splits, which is amazing.”

Lesley - who, along with Anton, was voted out fifth place in 2016, the year television presenter Ore Oduba, 37, won with Karen Hauer, 41 - also spilled that she is rooting for her pal, former ‘Family Fortunes’ host Les Dennis, 69, to snag the Glitterball and has revealed that he is taking the competition very seriously now he's been partnered with Nancy Xu, 32.

She said: “He’s been working out, lifting weights and doing lots of walking to ensure he is as fit and ready as possible. He is not in it to be the joke contestant.”

Now she is finished with her role as suburban maneater Dorien Green in 'Birds of a Feather', Lesley is open to landing a role in a soap, but she is struggling to find room in her diary because he is heading out on tour to reprise her ‘Sister Act’ role of Mother Superior in the musical.

She said: "I was talking with my agent the other day about me doing a soap next but it would have to be a juicy storyline and only for six months.”
