The 85-year-old chef was concerned about the celebrities' standard of cooking on the BBC One programme initially, but she has been pleasantly surprised by the stars' improvements throughout the series.

She said: "To start with I was a little bit worried, because I didn't think they would take it seriously.

"But they certainly have. And the standard has gone up and up and up.

"They are true cooks. They've got better and better as the programme has gone on."

While Mary is known for her culinary skills, during the numerous coronavirus pandemic lockdowns she has been turning her hand to something she doesn't have much experience in - cutting hair.

Speaking on 'Lorraine', Mary - who has been married to Paul J.M. Hunnings since 1966 - added: "I've been cutting my husband's hair and I'm amazed that he let me near him.

"I do a little bit at a time, but I've no idea what I'm doing.

"I sort of do like the hairdressers do and not make it like a pudding basin.

"I think it's not too bad."

'Celebs Go Dating' star Tom Read Wilson, former politician Ed Balls and journalist Rachel Johnson will face off in tonight's (17.02.21) 'Celebrity Best Home Cook' final.

Ferne McCann narrowly missed out on a place in the finale after exiting the show in last night's (16.02.21) semi-final.

The former 'TOWIE' star recently admitted she feels cooking is like "therapy" to her.

She said: "Cooking is emotional for me. It has been my therapy. It calms me.

"When I've had a bad day, I pour myself some vino, listen to some jazz and get my cook on."
