Matt Smith took Peter Capaldi for lunch to give him tips about taking over from him as the new Doctor.

The 30-year-old actor is to quit his role as the titular Time Lord in 'Doctor Who' at the end of the year, but he believes his replacement could be one of the best actors to take on the iconic part and admits he didn't even need to give him much advice because he will do a great job.

He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I really rate Peter - he's such an amazing actor and completely right for the part. We went out for lunch to talk Doctor tactics.

"I'm not sure if I gave him any real ideas because it's not like he needs much help. He'll play the Doctor in his own way - and do it brilliantly.

"I can't wait to see what he does with the part."

Matt's final outing as the Eleventh Doctor will be in this year's forthcoming Christmas special episode, but after recently shaving his head for movie 'How to Catch a Monster' he will have to wear a wig to shoot his 'Doctor Who' finale.

Speaking to 'Daybreak' at the GQ Men of the Year Awards, he said: "I [cut my hair] for a film, but it means I have to wear a wig in 'Doctor Who', which is a nightmare.

"I'm excited - I start shooting the Christmas special [on] Sunday. It'll be sad - the end of a wonderful era!"

Following the GQ Awards, several stars, including soccer pundit Jamie Redknapp, 'Burn' hitmaker Ellie Goulding and classical singing sensation Natalie Coyle, danced the night away at the after party at the Royal Opera House, where there was a fine selection of delicious Remy Martin cocktails.
