The Wanted singer - who took part in the Latin and ballroom show last year - is looking forward to seeing the 34-year-old pro dancer form the BBC One show's first-ever male pairing alongside John Whaite this year, and he would've been delighted if the South African star was his partner in 2020.

He said: "To have a male and male that’s going to be so interesting to see the way Johannes navigates those positions and what the new male ‘role’ looks like within that.

"I think it’s going to be incredible to watch and I would have loved to have been with Johannes – genuinely.

"I would have loved to have partnered with him. I think he would have been so cool to dance with.

"He’s the nicest man on earth and a joy to be around - honestly."

Instead, Max was partnered with Dianne Buswell last year, but they crashed out in the fourth week.

And the 33-year-old star has admitted the 32-year-old dancer was "genuinely shocked" when she saw him dance for the first time.

He said: "I think Dianne thought that she had a really chance last year when it got revealed that she was with me.

"Then she saw me dance and it was a genuine shock to her! So I felt for her in that sense!"

Max has now joked he hopes McFly star Tom Fletcher will be in the bottom two on the first live show of the series, because it might make his short stint in the competition "look better".

Speaking to Slingo, he added: "Harry Judd laughed at me last night, he came in the dressing room and we laughed at how short my stint was.

"Maybe Tom Fletcher will be bottom two, because he’ll make me look a bit better."
