Meera Syal would love to do a new series of 'Goodness Gracious Me'.

Meera Syal says she would love to star in a brand new series of 'Goodness Gracious Me' following the success of a one-off special

The hit comedy sketch show - which explored the lives of British-Asians living in the UK - will return for a one-off special to celebrate BBC Two's 50th anniversary, and Meera would love to get back together with co-stars Sanjeev Bhaskar and Nina Wadia for a new series.

She told the Radio Times: "We probably would [do it]. The material is there - India has changed so much and we've developed so much as a community. A lot of it depends on the response."

'Goodness Gracious Me' aired for three years from 1998 to 2001 and Meera, 52, married her co-star Sanjeev in 2005.

The couple also starred in 'The Kumars at No. 42' together, with Meera playing Sanjeev's grandmother Ummi.

The actress says their work together hasn't been affected by their marriage.

Meera said: "Other than we save on transport costs and both sets of wages go to the mortgage, nothing much as changed! Because of our son [Shaan] we tend to 'tag team', so it's quite nice to do something together."

'Goodness Gracious Me' airs tonight at 10pm on BBC Two.
