Michael Greco is to be a father for the first time aged 51.

The former 'EastEnders' actor - who portrayed Beppe di Marco in the BBC One soap from 1998 to 2002 - and his girlfriend Helen Harris are to welcome their first child together into the world later this year.

He wrote on Instagram: "Baby Greco First time daddy at 51! Probably the greatest post I’ve ever shared. Cant explain how emotional it was for me to be told that I am to be a father for the very first time, with my absolute soul mate. (sic)"

While Michael admitted he tends to keep his personal life to himself, he wants to "tell the world" about his baby news.

He added: "I’m normally a very private person but I couldn’t help reveal my utter joy and I just want to tell the world! In these devastating times that we are all facing right now, this is the best news I could ever dream of. My heart is full and I love you more than life itself Baby G. Xxx (sic)"

Michael was inundated with congratulatory messages from several soap stars.

His former 'EastEnders' co-star Tamzin Outhwaite (Mel Owen) admitted it was the best news she has heard "in ages".

She posted: "Whoa!!!!! That is incredible news Michael ... the best news I’ve heard in ages. Congratulations (sic)"

Former 'Emmerdale' actress Natalie Anderson (Alicia Metcalfe) wrote: "Awwww amazing!!! Oh I’m so thrilled for you darling!! What gorgeous news. (sic)"

Ex-'Hollyoaks' actress Susie Amy (Scarlett Morgan) wrote: "Beautiful words!!!!!! So happy for you (sic)"
