The 'Hollyoaks' actress - who has also starred in 'Coronation Street' - believes the Channel 4 show and its rivals should be recognised more, because they consistently deliver "amazing storylines".

She said: "I think soaps often get a bad wrap and they deserve more credit as they are always continuing to come up with amazing storylines."

The soap will celebrate its 25th birthday in October, and Nikki has hinted spin-off show 'Hollyoaks Later' - which returned in January when serial killer Breda McQueen (Moya Brady) was bumped off - could make a comeback for the milestone.

She said: "We've all heard little snippets and rumours but producers are being very quiet and we're all being kept in the dark.

"We all want to be part of it and I'm sure if previous anniversaries are to go by it will be explosive.

Anything could happen. 'Hollyoaks Later' could come back."

And whatever the soap puts on she thinks it will "make a huge impact".

She added to the Daily Star Online: "I think every time there is a big anniversary 'Hollyoaks' always comes through with amazing stunts which make a huge impact."

'Hollyoaks' play out a huge stunt every autumn, and Nikki's co-star Nick Pickard (Tony Hutchinson) recently revealed he has been told not to go on holiday when it has to be filmed.

The 44-year-old soap stalwart - who has appeared on the Channel 4 show since the first episode in 1995 - said: "I genuinely don't have a clue. I know it's going to be a big year ahead, and that they're planning something exciting - it will be a roller coaster.

"I've been told I can't go on holiday around the time of our big autumn stunt, but that's about all I know at the moment."
