The 24-year-old actor, who played Romeo Nightingale in the Channel 4 soap for six years, confirmed that he would be leaving the programme last night (31.01.24) and has set his sights on becoming a movie star even though he is aware of how "hard" it can be.

He told The Sun newspaper's TVBiz column: “Every actor obviously considers Hollywood, but I’m under no illusion, it’s a hard industry.

“So, I’m just looking forward to networking, meeting people and hopefully working on some good projects.”

Owen - who was the runner-up in the 2022 series of ‘I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!’ behind footballer Jill Scott - was also asked if he would consider appearing in other TV shows to which insisted: “Never say never”.

He explained: “I’m open to everything, as long as the character is different to Romeo.

“I enjoyed ‘I’m A Celeb’, but I want to just focus on my acting.

“It’s time to properly throw myself into the industry to see I can make something of myself here.

“When I first started acting, I’d do plays and short films, and I’d pick the craziest characters to play. I love playing a wide assortment of characters.

“I’ve loved Romeo, but I’ve played the same thing for a long time now, so it would be Bice to do something different and get into some different shoes.”

Reflecting on his time on the soap, Owen emphasised that he feels “really sad” about leaving ‘Hollyoaks’ because the fans are “really lovely” and “loyal”

He explained: "Walking away from 'Hollyoaks' is a really sad thing to do.

"I’d always say to the producer that if possible I would love for the door to be left open but you never know what could happen. Could always do a Lazarus if he does get killed off.

"That’s the thing that’s really sad about leaving 'Hollyoaks', the fans are so lovely. It’s going to be sad to walk away from because they are really lovely loyal fans."
