Piers Morgan has accused Dan Walker of 'milking' his recent near-death bike crash

The 45-year-old Channel 5 news anchor was "glad to be alive" after he was hit by a car while on his bike in Sheffield last week, but Piers - who regularly clashed with Dan when they worked as rivals on 'Good Morning Britain' and 'BBC Breakfast' respectively - says the TV presenter's reaction has been as if he has "survived a terror attack".

He wrote on Twitter: "If I were Dan Walker, and I’d been kicked off Match of the Day and BBC Breakfast, then washed up on Channel 5 daytime, and only got press these days by falling off a bike, getting a few grazes, and milking it like I’d survived a terror attack, I’d be this bitter too."

His comments came in response to Dan poking fun at Piers this week about an incident in 2021, when he stormed off the 'GMB' set after weatherman Alex Beresford accused him of "trashing" Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, live on air.

While presenting the RTS Awards this week, Dan said: "I’ve lost all my inhibitions. It could be a fun night everybody, OK. I’d like to apologise in advance for anything that I might say that is near the knuckle. My idea of where the knuckle is has completely changed within the last ten days.

"To give you an idea of my mental state, let me put it this way: if a weather presenter were to question me in any way, shape, or form, I’m liable to storm off stage in an enormous huff.

"I might even go as far as to start a new TV channel based entirely on my ego, which no-one will watch."

In response to Piers claiming Dan was "milking" his injuries following his near-death experience, Dan wrote on Twitter: "What a laugh

Interesting idea of taking a lesson on bitterness from a fella who has written article after article attacking a woman who had one drink with him thought he was a numptie

We missed you last night.

You should have come (sic)"

Dan was left battered and bruised with a bloodied face following his bike accident, and he was fortunate to avoid any broken bones.

He wrote on Instagram hours after the incident: "Bit of an accident this morning.

Glad to be alive after getting hit by a car on my bike. Face is a mess but I don’t think anything is broken. Thanks to Shaun and Jamie for sorting me out and the lovely copper at the scene.

This is my smiling

Thankful for our NHS (sic)"
