The 'Good Morning Britain' presenter teased his co-host over speculation she has got together with the chairman of Crystal Palace - the football team she supports - and joked he thought she had confessed her love for him.

Speaking on his return to 'GMB' today (05.11.18) following a short break, he quipped: "So many interesting things I had to catch up on ...

"I got slightly confused by this story. You have found someone who is 53, yep, I am 53, born in 1965, I was born in 1965, been married before and with kids, another box ticked.

"Handsome, wealthy, successful, big passion for London football club... I was reading all this and thinking God she's come out!"

Susanna jokingly replied: "I've gone public with my passion for you."

Piers also tried to take credit for Steve, 53, and Susanna, 47, getting together, and joked US President Donald Trump was the catalyst for the pair's romance.

He said: "The first embers of this relationship were ignited in New York a day after Trump became President. We all got together. It was your idea.

"You said you wanted to bring a couple of friends from Crystal Palace and you clearly thought 'what a great guy'.

"It wouldn't have happened without the direct involvement of Donald Trump. We were all there because of him."

She replied: "I've just got to get through this morning. I knew you'd end up claiming credit for it."

Piers, 53, revealed Susanna had tried to bribe him by gifting him a bottle of champagne earlier this morning, so he would "be kind" to her on the show.

He added: "We're all very pleased for you. There are now three of us in this marriage."

Piers' comments come after speculation emerged yesterday (04.11.18) that Steve and Susanna started dating two months ago after bonding over their love of Palace.

A source said: "They have known each other for several years through their connections to Palace.

"Over the summer they started hanging out more and fell for each other.

"They have a real chemistry, a wicked sense of humour and both are real family people. Plus, of course, they share a love of the Eagles."
