Piers Morgan is said to be keen to land an interview with JK Rowling for his new show

The former 'Good Morning Britain' host is to front a nightly programme on new channel talkTV later this year, and it is believed he has reached out to the 'Harry Potter' author.

An insider told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Piers needs to start with a bang and JK would do the job."

However, a source close to the writer said a request for an interview had been rejected.

Last week, it was reported Piers is set to land a tell-all interview with Britney Spears - whose 13-year conservatorship ended in November - as the first main chat on his new weeknight show.

An insider said: "She’s one of the biggest names in showbiz with a fascinating story to tell.

"Piers would love to sit down with Britney - as would his former employees ITV - so it would be a major coup for him. And he wants to start with a bang."

In September, it was announced Piers had joined News Corp and FOX News Media ahead of launching a new TV show in early 2022.

Piers' global TV show will air weeknights in the UK, on FOX Nation for US audiences, and on Sky News Australia.

He said at the time: "I want my global show to be a fearless forum for lively debate and agenda-setting interviews, and a place that celebrates the right of everyone to have an opinion, and for those opinions to be vigorously examined and challenged."

A month later, it was revealed he had quit his ITV show 'Life Stories' and was to be replaced by his former 'GMB' co-host Kate Garraway, who he interviewed in his last-ever episode.

He wrote on Twitter: "I’m quitting Life Stories after 12 years and 100 shows. My final one will be with my fabulous friend @kategarraway and she will then present the remaining 3 planned shows of the next series as I leave ITV to host my new global daily show. It’s been a blast!"

An ITV spokesperson said: "Piers and ITV have agreed that his interview with Kate Garraway for 'Piers Morgan’s Life Stories' will be his last; and that Kate will take over the baton on his behalf for the remaining three episodes of the forthcoming series.

"We would like to thank Piers for over a hundred engaging, compelling and insightful 'Life Stories' over the past 12 years where his interviewees have included the very best names in showbiz, business and politics.

"We wish him the very best of luck with all of his future ventures.

"Kate is a brilliant journalist and an inquisitive interviewer and we look forward to her forthcoming three shows."
