Ricky Gervais is considering releasing a David Brent album after being inundated with offers.

The 52-year-old star - who attempted to become a pop star with 1980s band Seona Dancing - has received several proposals from major record companies about his alter-ego, made famous in TV sitcom 'The Office', creating a CD following the success of his 'Learn Guitar with Brent' YouTube episodes.

Ricky said: "I can't believe I'm getting ridiculous offers from major record companies all over the world for a David Brent album. Where were these people when I was trying to be a real pop star? And starving?"

Sony and Universal are thought to be two of the big companies who have approached Ricky about making Brent big in the music industry.

The fictional character - an office middle-manager at the Slough branch of paper merchants Wernham-Hogg - has also being toying with the idea of reuniting his band Foregone Conclusion, who were made up of members Reggie Mental, Flange Warrior and Mammogram, in his latest guitar tutorial, 'Slough'.

Ricky said: "It's been so much fun bringing back David Brent and have him philosophise on YouTube, and spend all his hard-earned repping money on still trying to become a pop star. It's funny and sadly true of today's 'X Factor' culture."

Brent has several songs to his name including 'Spaceman Came Down', 'Free Love Highway' and 'Ain't No Trouble', and he recently performed so-called rap 'Equality Street' on TV in aid of Comic Relief.
