The 63-year-old TV presenter and her husband Eamonn Holmes co-hosted the Friday episode of the show from 2006 until 2021 when Eamonn left ITV but she has no plans to take over full-time after Holly quit.

She told Woman Home magazine: "I laughed when I saw that report. I have no idea where these things come from."

However, she wouldn't rule out a short stint on the show, and insisted that Eamonn's issues with ITV have nothing to do with her.

She said: "I don’t have to ask Eamonn’s permission to do anything, or for him me, so if ITV said, ‘Would you come and do a week on 'This Morning'?’ and if I was free and it was with the right person, I probably would do it."

Ruth also spoke about GB News presenter Eamonn's health, after he recently underwent a spine and neck stretching procedure.

She said: "With any care situation – and there are millions of carers in this country – it isn’t always easy, but if something happens to somebody you love, you help them as much as you can. It’s testing but we manage as a family."

Speaking before his operation, Eamonn told the Express newspaper: "It's an operation that carries a 20 per cent risk of going wrong, but such is the pain and restrictions that I have been suffering for the past 18 months, I've decided it is a risk I am willing to take.

"In fact, it's a risk I want to take because, at this moment in time, nothing could seem worse than the constant pain that runs through my lower back and legs."
