The 36-year-old actress "doesn't trust people as much" as she used to before joining the ITV soap in 2000, and now believes she has a better ability to spot a wrong-un after her alter-ego Maria Connor previously got engaged to several bad boys.

She said: "I like to think I would spot the signs of murderers now, as she's been engaged to a couple of them.

"I think Maria trusts people too easily. I don't trust people as much, but I think that's part of being in this industry."

Samia - who has four-year-old son Yves with husband Sylvain Longchambon, and nine-year-old daughter Freya from her previous marriage to Matthew Smith - admits it would feel "really weird" to leave the soap after appearing on the show for so long, and says she could be "institutionalised".

She said: "I feel old now. I've been on the show for my whole adult life - it's more than half my life, in fact.

"It's quite scary, although you never have time to get sick of it.

"The core cast and crew tend to stay the same, and you feel like you're grown up together. Maybe I'm institutionalised."

And Samia expects her daughter Freya to follow in her acting footsteps - because she can already cry on demand.

Speaking to Notebook magazine, she added: "Freya is definitely a future actor - she can get tears within seconds.

"Jane Danson [Leanne Battersby] can't believe it - when she comes over she always says, 'Go on, Freya, do that crying thing that you do.'

"Her little lip will start wobbling and she'll just cry. I don't know how she does it."

Samia recently put pen to paper on a new 'Corrie' deal to keep her on the cobbles until 2020.
