The 63-year-old music mogul agreed that victory on the ITV1 talent show - which includes a £250,000 cash prize and a chance to perform at the Royal Variety - is not the only way the programme can “change lives”.

Simon told the Daily Star newspaper: “'I would say that now your first audition is so important because of what happens virtually.

“Even just that single audition can make a massive difference to your life.

“You don't need to win to change your career.”

Simon divulged he didn’t “know” if was still the villain of the show's judging panel, which also features Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and newcomer Bruno Tonioli.

He said: "I don't know, I think we all have different opinions.

“I don't really think about it too much. You have to take each act individually. Rather than just thinking, 'I’m just going to be tough or whatever,' because everybody's different. I think it's only fair to be honest. I really, really do."

Simon’s co-star Bruno - who joined the panel as a replacement for David Walliams - teased there were some moments that “will break your heart” when the show returns on Saturday (15.04.23), and also admitted he was shocked by how funny some of the comedian contestants were.

The 67-year-old dancer told the Radio Times magazine: "I can’t give away too much, but there is some stuff that will break your heart.

"And some very, very funny comedians – I was surprised."
