Chris Gascoyne is leaving Corrie for an extended break and now his co-star has admitted that Weatherfield will never be the same

The 55-year-old actor has played Peter Barlow for more than two decades but is set to take an "extended break" from the show later this year and now his co-star Ryan Prescott - who stars as Ryan Connor - has remarked that Weatherfield “won’t be the same” without him.

The 34-year-old actor told Daily Mirror at the Inside Soap Awards: "He's a fantastic actor to work with, Chris is the kind of person who could have gone off and done anything and he dedicated 20 odd years to the show, so to see him go it won't be the same show. I will miss him dearly. I will stay in touch with him but working with him every day is one of the best things about coming to work. He's one of those guys, he's a real actor in the sense that he is nitty gritty and he cares about his work, even after so long he cares about technique and whatever he's working with that day. He brings stuff to soap we don't always see."

In July, it was announced that Chris would be taking “an extended break” from The Cobbles after appearing in the show since 2000 - leaving intermittently - and making a full-time return in 2016 but is is getting off to try his hands at other tasks like the annual Christmas pantomime at the Alban Arena.

A rep for the venue said: "The Alban Arena are delighted to announce Coronation Street Legend Chris Gascoyne will star as Captain Hook in The All New Adventures of Peter Pan this pantomime season! "This promises to be our most spectacular pantomime yet with stunning sets, dazzling costumes, and a star-studded cast, this is a must-see show for the whole family. Don't miss your chance to experience the wonder and excitement of Neverland once more in Paul Hendy's pantomime sequel!"
